The Cloud Foundry Container Runtime is the new name for Kubo, which is Kubernetes running on BOSH. In today’s episode of InApps Makers, TNS founder Alex Williams caught up with Cloud Foundry Foundation Chief Technology Officer Chip Childers to learn more about Cloud Foundry’s plans for this new runtime, with Childers highlighting how BOSH is serving the needs of today’s developers.
Childers went on to note that the Cloud Foundry Container Runtime and application runtime will sit next to one another, allowing for shared identity between Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry application runtimes.
“I think that what’s most important right now is thinking about the developers. What is it that the developer in the enterprise needs? That developer experience is the most important thing bar none in our minds. Everything else floats from that,” said Childers, adding that “the Cloud Foundry community looks at it as: Developer team, developer experience, and then down.”
In This Edition:
2:01: Exploring Cloud Foundry’s container runtime and what end users are looking to achieve.
5:08: The technical architecture behind the Cloud Foundry container runtime.
11:08: Highlighting how BOSH fits into the new model where containers are becoming the new way to build microservices, and what are the use cases Childers is seeing emerge?
12:26: What is the path forward for the Cloud Foundry container runtime infrastructure?
13:57: What it will be possible for enterprises to do today now that these new capabilities are available to developers.
18:54: The extension of the discussion surrounding service abstraction, glue code, and the next generation of linking services with cloud service providers.
