5 Sessions You Won’t Want to Miss at DevOps World 2020 – InApps Technology 2022

Presentations will include user stories from a variety of industries, including agriculture, mining, travel and hospitality. Industry professionals can participate in general-purpose sessions designed to entertain, focused technical sessions and everything in between.

Successfully Implementing DevSecOps at Scale at a Large Financial Services Organization — Nagaraju Kakarla, Fidelity Investments

Fidelity Investments is one of the largest financial services firms in the world, with nearly $2.5 trillion in assets under management and more than 50,000 employees. When it needs to scale an initiative, teams face challenges that can disrupt processes across entire regions.

Nagaraju Kakarla, a senior director and chapter leader for enterprise computing at Fidelity in India, will talk about some of the DevSecOps and site reliability engineering (SRE) best practices his team is following as part of Fidelity’s digital transformation program. Kakarla will describe DevSecOps frustrations and challenges he’s encountered working at, or as a consultant for, other large organizations including Mindtree, Intuit and Cisco.

Managed CI/CD Pipelines: Minimizing Developer Effort and Maximizing Enterprise Compliance – Linda Oyolu and Tahmina Khan, Capital One 

In recent years, Capital One has developed a reputation as one of the more forward-looking financial services companies around. The company has gone all-in on the cloud, embraced agile methodologies and open source technologies, and promoted its technical chops in national TV ad campaigns.

Capital One’s implementation of Jenkins pipelines has transformed the company. In this presentation for DevOps practitioners, Capital One’s Linda Oyolu and Tahmina Khan will describe how a managed CI/CD pipeline framework can be implemented in a large organization, to make life easier for software engineering teams while increasing enterprise compliance.

Chaos Engineering the Chaos Engineers — Jason Yee, Gremlin

We’ve all heard plenty of stories about companies “eating their own dog food” — essentially taking the technologies or services they develop and consuming them to make sure their own businesses work more effectively. (“Drinking your own champagne” is a much more pleasant metaphor, but for some reason, it hasn’t caught on.)

Gremlin has an interesting dog food story. The company creates a chaos engineering platform that customers use to put its own applications through rigorous tests. To refine and improve on its own platform, Gremlin uses its technology to test and retest its offerings in the most chaotic environments it can come up with.

But there’s more to testing than running a tool. Success depends on a company’s ability to run processes — and Gremlin found that it was falling short in the area where it specializes. Director of Advocacy Jason Yee’s session will cover how Gremlin experimented with its own Chaos Engineering practices: what the company tried, what worked and what didn’t. GitOps at Adobe — Carlos Sanchez, Adobe

Gather a few developers in a room — or on a video call — and you’ll probably hear somebody talk glowingly about GitOps in their organizations. GitOps, after all, gives developers control. By upholding the principle that Git is the one and only source of truth, GitOps empowers developers to perform tasks that typically fall under the purview of IT operations.

In this session, Adobe Senior Cloud Software Engineer Carlos Sanchez will focus on how his company has developed GitOps processes; how it’s managed applications, Kubernetes clusters and CDN. He will also discuss how it has used Jenkins and Git repos to store code and artifacts, track version history and maintain a single source of truth.

Five Reasons Why DevOps Is a Total Failure — Savinder Puri, Zensar 

DevOps World features over 125 sessions that spell out clearly why DevOps is generating value for today’s organizations and how it can improve the fortunes of others well into the future. It also includes one session that argues — satirically — that the whole discipline is a colossal waste of time.

Savinder Puri, DevOps evangelist at Zensar Technologies, writes and speaks often about the challenges organizations have implementing DevOps — how they often underestimate those challenges, get frustrated and give up. In this DevOps World session, he’ll offer his take on why DevOps initiatives fail.
